Quick Update About Homebase Last week, Google Chrome and Let’s Encrypt changed some rules about special security certificates. This affects a small part of how Homebase handles secure connections between identities (our peer-to-peer system). **We’ve got this covered.** We’re rolling out a new and better way to handle secure peer connections next week. It will be simpler for everyone and actually more secure than before. **What this means for you:** - Most people will notice absolutely nothing — everything will keep working smoothly. - Only a few people whose certificates were recently updated might temporarily be unable to send messages (for example, chat messages). **No action is needed from you.** We will fix this automatically when the update rolls out next week, and everything will be back to normal. --- Technical background (for those who want the details): Public certificate authorities like Let’s Encrypt are no longer allowed to issue certain certificates for client authentication (due to changes enforced by Chrome). This impacts Homebase’s peer protocol — the way two identities securely talk to each other. In the current setup, the caller uses a client certificate to prove ownership of its domain. We’re replacing this with a fully self-sovereign nonce-based challenge-response approach. No more public-CA certificates needed for client auth. It’s cleaner, removes the dependency entirely, and is more secure (especially against stolen keys, since proofs can’t be used offline). Thanks for being part of the journey! — The Homebase Team

Alright Homebase! We will be doing a small bit of maintenance and upgrades this evening (CST). You might see a small blip in down time but it's #worth-it as we're adding some core API features to our data structure which allows, putting it simply - for better data-sharing (when you choose, of course) and more efficient storage.

And we're happy to announce more progress and updates from your friendly neighbor Homebase team! In our community app - Added Threads & Activity pages to help you keep on top of it A very useful feature called Message collaboration. You can mark a message collaborative to allow the whole community to edit and collaborate on it. We use this internally for managing our roadmap and public posts... Including this message ;) You can add a status to your name and others will see what you're up to with a bit of text and an emoji (because what's life if it's not filled with emoji's?) In Chat - Audio messages now have timestamp before playing You can add more members in a group chat More dedicated file previews for documents, apks, pdfs, code etc RichText preview support in Chat For other apps - performance enhancements and bug fixes as always And on the super important yet invisible back-end Enhanced caching system to support scaling, featuring two levels: local cache and distributed cache. New batch update API for files, enabling the addition, modification, or removal of metadata and payloads in a single request. Improvements to internal storage and transfer history tracking. In addition to file transfer history, a summary is now maintained. Introduced support for local metadata (JSON and tags) that remains private and is not transmitted during file transfers, allowing users to retain sender-specific information. Resolved a bug in the data upgrade process. Onward and upwards! Feel free to comment and let us know how you're enjoying Homebase!
